AGU is deeply alarmed by the Environmental Protection Agency’s plan to reverse its long-standing greenhouse gas hazard determination. This action undermines decades of rigorous scientific research showing that carbon dioxide, methane and other emissions pose a clear threat to human health and well-being.
AGU strongly supports the global scientific community: the weight of the evidence is unequivocal and regulatory safeguards must reflect the best available science. By reversing this critical finding, EPA would not only jeopardize years of progress but also erode public trust in evidence-based policymaking. We call on the Agency to confirm the endangerment finding and recommit to policies based on transparent, peer-reviewed research; Safeguarding our planet and our communities depends on it.
You can act now in two ways:
- Take a minute and sign AGU’s formal letter to EPA expressing the serious harm that the repeal of the danger ruling will have on human health and well-being.
- Submit your own public comment. Public comments are used during the rulemaking process as a means for the public to provide feedback to agencies on the potential impact of a rule, provide additional data, and more. Read more of the Public comment project. AGU makes it easy to submit public comments. Read our public comment toolkit and then write your comment and send it in one step. To write an impactful comment, plan at least an hour to read the proposed changes and write a thoughtful, technical response. A well-written comment should take at least 30 minutes to write.
Thank you for defending science.
