Abstract
Background and objectives – The Serra do Ambrósio is a mountain with a unique vegetation called Carrasco. The Carrasco is characterized by high -granulometry sandy soils and houses rare species. During the current investigation into the flora of Arecaceae of the Diamantina plateau, A new Syagrus species It was discovered, described here.
Material and Methods – Morphology and anatomy are described according to field collections. The anatomy of the pinnas was analyzed using LM (cross -hand -free sections). The new species belongs to Syagrus Glaucescens complex, and an identification key and a distribution map were created.
Key results – Syagrus Harenae resembling S. GlaucescensBut some characteristics easily differentiate it, such as small size, lax pinnas, symmetrical tips of the pinnas, Ramáta scales, a thin clothing scattered in the peduncle, inflorescences and yellow -yellow fruits orange and pistil with clothing. The new species also has flowers arranged in tetradas and pentads and is the first species of Syagrus Showing two sepals, petals with imbricated tips, stamins with anteras and frequently lack staminodial rings. The anatomy of the pinnas of the new species also resembles S. Glaucescenswhich indicates its relationship. However, the reliable differences in the anatomy of Pinnae distinguish the new species, such as the fibrous ring reached by the abaxial hypodermis and the large adaxial fiber package near the margin. The new species is evaluated as in critical danger.
Conclusion – Syagrus Harenae It is the first endemic species of the genus described for the Serra do Ambrósius and has surprising characteristics, such as the reinterrain of flowers and pistilate flowers arranged in tetrades and pentads. The type population of the diamond plateau and its disjunctions as one of the diversity centers for Syagrus. The discovery of this new species reinforces the uniqueness of the local flora and its classification as a priority area for conservation.
