Pixar films tend to go through many changes during production, but it is rare that we see those changes as publicly as we have done with Elio. Originally announced as launch of spring 2024, Elio The launch changed dates several times and will now reach theaters on June 20. A third trailer has just been released and, compared to others, he feels like a completely new and different movie.
When we first listen to about Elio In 2022, it was supposed to be a child who takes space and is wrong as the only representative of the Earth. That, according to the press release, is still part of the film, but this trailer does not mention it. Instead, he focuses on that same child, Elio (Yonas Kibreab) making his first real friend, an alien named Gordon (Remy Edgerly), a character that was barely seen in previous trailers. Now that clearly looks fun. A friendship story based on characters in space. You can imagine all the hijinks and problems that this will create for both characters. In addition, there is the greatest threat and we can assume that Elio will still save the earth in some way. It could be great.
But let’s go back. Here is the first trailer to Elio. The character of Gordon is not in that and his father Grigon (Brad Garrett), which is clearly the bad in the new trailer, is known as an “ambassador”, no “lord.” It seems that it was previously a good guy or served as a different purpose. Now, to be fair, that is a very early advance. The movie could still be about something else. We do not know that Grigon does not turn. We don’t know if Glordon is in him. It is simply not in the teaser. However, in Elio Case, we also have another trailer. This is also a teaser advance, but it is from months later and shows very clearly something new to take shape. In this clip, you can see the film of the last trailer taking shape. Elio’s scene knowing the other alien ambassadors is different but is still present. There is only one taking with it with glord, so that is at least there, but potentially it is not the focus. And Grigon now has a more sinister look on him.
So what happened here? We do not know with certainty. Presumably previous versions of Elio They did not work as well as the study of study and Pixar made changes to improve it. However, that usually happens behind the scene, so it is fun to see a track in marketing. But, again, this is Pixar. This happens. Sometimes for the better (as with Ratatouille) Sometimes not (like Brave) But everything is at the service of history and the film. We will see if it was worth this summer.
