What defines a PC has changed substantially in the course of my life. They have changed drastically and size, but until I bought my most recent, all were at least vaguely similar. Now my PC concept has become completely.
PCs can be laptops
The first computer was a second -hand Dell laptop with a dead battery and a telephone access modem. We placed it on a desk, and for all purposes, it was a desk with little power that I had the luxury of connecting on the floor if I wanted to go to bed.
This laptop executed Windows XP. It had 128 MB of RAM and 8 MB of video memory. I do not remember the size of the hard drive, but it was not a number measured in the hundreds. The limits were such that it could run Starbut Warcraft 3 I would only run into extremely low configurations, and my hard drive didn’t have much space for anything else.
I have no photos of that time, but there is a YouTube corner where you can relive the long boot times and the taskbar in a similar machine.
Yes, I am aware that there are legions that love Windows XP. I never did, even when it was the only operating system I knew.
PCs can also be desks
Shocker, I know, but he didn’t have PC in the order in which they were invented. I do not remember the sequence in which the next two computers entered my life. One was an old imac that my dad could bring home from school. I executed an old version of Mac OS, and I could never connect it to the Internet. This was the only time in my life that I had a Mac, and there was little to do with that. Already, computers were not very useful without being able to connect.
My other desk was my first computer that did not come with strict power limitations. It was an Intel Pentium Dell desktop with a large CRT monitor. You can still find machines like floating eBay.
This Dell machine had 512 MB of RAM, and although I don’t remember the memory of the video, it was enough to play Resident Evil 4. Taking into account that this was one of the most popular games on home consoles such as my playstation 2 at that time, I was impressed. Run Star and War They were no problem at all. Now you could execute larger office suites like OpenOffice.org instead of lighter applications such as Abiña.
This computer still executed Windows XP, so finally my concept of a computer remained unchanged. This was the same fundamental experience, only better.
But laptops can be equally good
When I went to college, the school provided me with a laptop Dell Latitude D630, which came with a Nvidia graphics card. It was not a game card, but it was powerful enough to play Xbox 360-Quality games in medium configurations (which was the current generation of consoles at that time).
This time I had a laptop with a battery that worked, and was on a university campus with real broadband. In addition, it was wireless! Not only was it no longer tied to a wall, but it was not bound only to those places that could run in a few kilobytes per second. You could finally transmit video from YouTube! I could try Steam and download games myself, instead of trusting the installation discs! This was huge for someone like me who grew up in the sticks.
I could also finally download and install Ubuntu Linux, which I had initially found in high school.

We just don’t see face to face.
I never returned to a desk. As an adult, I have found that the portability of laptops is too vital to surrender. In any case, I wanted my PC to be even more portable.
Can a tablet be a PC?
Once the tablets reached the store shelves, I immediately liked the idea of replacing my laptop with one. It was just a matter of waiting for an option with the correct combination of hardware and software. I saw this in Toshiba Thrive, a 10 -inch tablet with Android 3.0 Honeycomb, which was designed exclusively for tablets.
This tablet had a full -size USB port for flash units, which allowed me to easily transfer files and use printers to which I could not connect wirelessly. I bought a Bluetooth keyboard and really used this tablet during my university classes to take notes and write documents, despite how immature it was the retrospective software. Android has benefited genuinely to have another decade and a half in the baking oven since then.
Since then I have had several Android tablets, from the Nexus 7 to the Boox Ultra C. tab, however, after a maximum of a few months, I constantly returned to a laptop. A tablet could be a PC, but I didn’t have much luck achieving in the long term.
My favorite PC is a folding phone
When I bought the Galaxy Z Fold 5, I was causing Samsung Dex to use. I had been wearing an Edge+ 2023 motorcycle connected to a lapdock for a few months, and I knew I liked the concept. I just needed a more mature software.

Why I left Linux for Samsung Dex
I forgot how big can make the difference hardware.
The galaxy z fold 5 offered that and more. The interior screen is large enough to do everything I previously needed a laptop. Samsung applications are more capable than Google’s and, in the case, many of my favorite Linux desktop applications. The telephone interface allows me to manage applications in Windows like other PCs. The optical pencil has become my main way of using the device, allowing me to write by hand and supplant my need for a keyboard.
All this is also the ability to connect my Z fold 6 to a monitor, combine a keyboard and a mouse and have the traditional PC experience.
A galaxy z fold is a 3 -genuine device that has blocked me on Android, because no other device like this is available in the USA. It is a phone, tablet and desk in one. Frankly, it’s much more. It is my favorite ereader. It is a play console. It is a camera and a music player. Ultimately, it is more a pocket computer than smartphones, and has requested my brain to think about mobile devices in this way.
If I can write, do everything I need to do in a browser, edit images and administer all my files, if I have not had to reach a laptop in months, why not really hug this as the only computer I need?
I have used an Android phone as my main computer for more than a year and a half. At least a year of that has been specifically with a Fold Galaxy Z, although I made the transition to the galaxy z fold 6 along the way. Due to the large number of devices that I have been able to sell or that I no longer need to update, this change of mind has saved me money, and continues to remodel how I live in the world.
When your whole working life is spent in front of a PC, it matters a lot what form takes that PC. When the day ends, instead of sleeping my computer, now I bend it and slide it in my pocket. My office is anywhere where I want it to be.
