iOS 26 Improves screen captures in three ways

iOS 26 includes three small but significant changes for screenshots.

The next software update adds a new screen capture menu to the configuration application, in general. In it, there are some useful alternatives.

First, now there is an option for HDR screenshots. When this format is selected, any HDR photo or videos in screenshots will really appear in HDR with a complete dynamic range, when seen in the newest iPhone models and other compatible devices.

Apple says that HDR screen catches use the Heif image format. There is still an option for SDR screenshots, which are saved as PNG files.

Second, Carplay screen catches finally work opted. In iOS 18 and before, taking a screenshot on an iPhone connected to Carplay generates iPhone and Carplay screenshots. However, starting with iOS 26, only an iPhone screen capture is captured in this default situation. Carplay screen capture capture must be activated manually.

Third, when you take a screenshot on an iPhone 15 Pro or newer, you can now identify content within the screenshot using the Intelligence visual function.

Apple has redesigned the screen capture interface in iOS 26, with visual intelligence options that are now shown at the bottom of the screen. “Ask” it allows you to ask Chatgpt about the content in a screenshot, while the “image search” can show similar images to those of a screenshot on Google Images, Etsy and Pinterest. There is also a “prominent to search” option that allows you to search for images of a specific object in a screenshot.

If you prefer that screen catches appear as miniatures in the lower left corner of the screen, as they do in iOS 18 and previous versions, you can disable previous full screen views in the new screen capture configuration menu.

IOS 26 is currently in beta, and the update must be launched in September.
