I am Michelle Hamad, RWI Logistic Business Intelligence Architect, a third -party logistics provider that uses business intelligence, load management and brokerage to address the problems of the supply chain for its customers. To help our sales representatives make daily pricing decisions more quickly, we create a dome price database.

We have a formal process to set the price of the main requests for customer proposals. However, many of our agreements are smaller, unique opportunities and, in many cases, only a burden. Sales representatives cite these routine opportunities using their own favorite methods, which generally include market intuition and research using internal and external sources.

Case of use

Our sales representatives are the ones who interact more with customers, so they have a valuable vision that would be lost if we would completely automate the price process. To ensure that sales representatives have all the information they need, we serve data points in a single location. In this way, they may be sure that they have not been under the projects and remain competitive, while spending more time to customer relationships. By automating the investigation, we release their time while making sure they do not leave money on the table.

We use dome to add and combine multiple sources of price information, including RWI’s load history, current and past appointments of operators, external market data and more. We present the data to our representatives on a simple board that shows tariff trends over time and a list of operators who have executed similar lanes (combinations of origin and destination) in the past.

The adoption of the new tool was fast and enthusiastic! It is frequently used by our representatives. A great sign of success are the suggestions that we obtain weekly for expansion and improvement. This example demonstrates how information technology can work together with human talent, instead of trying to replace it.
