Since the beginning of this year, kitchen oil has become a luxury for many Kenyans in ruins and fighters as the price of merchandise continues to increase as a result of a demonstration in the cost of edible oil worldwide.
Customers now opt for salad oil that comes in barrels and are subdivided into smaller amounts in many stores. Customers carry their containers for the room, half, a complete liter of kitchen oil they want to buy.
But even this is no longer affordable for many, most stores at this time, sell a liter of salad oil on SH200 average from SH150 that used to be.
Most of the prices are those that direct businesses that need much of this oil, such as fries, fish frying, mandazi, bajia and saamosa, among others.
However, creating a fortune from this walk and helping some of these businesses to continue working at a lower cost by giving an equal alternative is Michael Oketch, a lard seller along the busy jogoo road.
“I started opening a pork butcher shop at the beginning of last year and selling meat to customers, but over time, I began to receive pork consultations from some buyers, something that caused my thoughts about how this could also be a source of income,” Michael said.
From there, he could go to his usual slaughterhouse on the outskirts of Nairobi and after buying his usual pork, he would ask for fatty parts that were sold at very low prices compared to the common pieces.
“I discovered that a kilo of the fatty parts was sold to SH50, while a kilo of normal pork cost SH300. So, for the first time I bought 10 kilos of fat pieces in SH500, which gave me around seven liters of oil sale to SH130 per liter to win SH910, ”said Michael.
From there he has never looked back. Today, buy up to about 30 kgs a day of the fatty parts that give it about 26 liters of pig butter after the extraction that makes the pieces heating.
In one day, you can sell up to 20 liters of oil to wholesale buyers who drag it to SH2,600, while if it sells to the retailers, it does sh3,000 selling to SH150 per liter.
Its main buyers are frying entrepreneurs along Jogoo Road, in the Burma market, while some in the Gekomba market. Others include business from Frying Samosa and Bajia along the busy Road of Eastlands.
“I did not know that this business will reach this as fast because, as it is, now it is overcoming the sale of pork and I think that while the kitchen oil prices will continue awake, more customers will come,” said Michael.
He says that many customers are not only buying pig butter due to high prices of kitchen oil, but also due to their nutritional value.
Experts claim that oil is one of the best sources of vitamin D, a nutrient in which most people have deficiency today.
Research conducted in 2011 by Weston A. Price Foundation, a global nutrition and health platform, found that grated pig -raised butter contains 1100 IU of vitamin D per tablespoon.
Butter is a good source of fats that support a healthy heart. In fact, after olive oil, which consists of 77 percent of monounsaturated fatty acids, the butter has the most monounsaturated fats to 48 percent.
These fats help reduce blood cholesterol levels and maintain healthy cells.
In addition, unlike most vegetable oils, which should not be used for high heat cooking, butter will not oxidize at high temperatures, therefore, it has a high point of smoke.
The butter contains hill whose low levels are connected with everything, from a higher risk of heart disease and Alzheimer to problems with the liver.
And finally, the food cooked with lard has an incredible flavor, therefore, it generally improves the taste of roasted vegetables, grilled meats and even baked products.
