Apple in iOS 18.4 has introduced a potentially committed change to Safari that puts its search history on the full screen when you open new tabs.
Previously in iOS, open a new tab and touch the search field mentioned the keyboard while continued showing the personalized safari home page. However, the latest IOS 18.4 software update of Apple modifies how Safari handles new tabs by automatically showing their recent search history every time someone takes advantage of the search field.
It is likely that users aware of privacy will raise their eyebrows in change, since it could expose the previous searches in situations in which users give their devices to friends, family or colleagues, or simply look for something when someone else is looking at their screen. A quick touch in the search field would immediately reveal what the owner of the device has been looking online.
Fortunately, Apple has added a lever that reverts the new behavior of the Safari tab so that its recent searches are no longer in full vision.
- Open the Settings Application on your iPhone.
- Move down down and touch Applications.
- Find Safari In the alphabetical list and tap, then turn off the switch called Show recent searches.
Of course, there is an advantage in the change you can see. It makes the search terms used frequently more conveniently accessible, potentially saving time if you often look for similar issues. But convenience still comes with the compensation of reduced privacy, and that could be a step too far for some users.
