The prey -predator interaction is an important phenomenon for our understanding of community dynamics. The mantis and web fabric spiders are predators that belong to the same guild, and can be the predator and the dam of the other. However, their relationship is generally asymmetric, and spiders are often the mantis dam. Here, we inform an opposite case in which an adult female mantis, Jerodula chinensis Werner, 1929, was foreshadowed by the Orbe-Web fabric spider Gibaranea abscissa (Karsch, 1879), without using a website, in an autumn field in Japan. We suggest that the differences in cold tolerance allowed the small spider to hunt a mantis dam that was approximately eight times.
