What you need to know
- The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 could have appeared in a database input of wireless power consortium.
- The list suggests that the Galaxy Z Fold 7 will admit Qi2.1, but confusing the phone as only admitting the baseline power profile.
- Anyway, it is unlikely that the Galaxy Z Fold 7 admits the hardware magnets, so you will need a case to complete the experience.
The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 seems to be obtaining the last Qi2.1 support, but the real wireless load experience is probably not changing much compared to its predecessor. TO list Added to the Database of the Wireless Energy Consortium on Monday, June 2 revealed that an unpublished Samsung phone obtained the Qi2.1 certification. It is likely that it is the Galaxy Z Fold 7, although some key details are missing.
The Samsung device added to the WPC database has a model number of SM-D637Uthat does not match the company’s recent pattern for folding. However, the WPC inputs of the South Korean technological giant have often presented different models for products prior to liberation. For example, the Galaxy Z Fold 5 received the Qi certification under the model number SM-D617Dwhile its official model number is SM-F946. The galaxy z fold 6 entrance was equally unique with a SC-55E Model number.
Anyway, this unpublished Samsung phone seems to be the next Galaxy Z Fold 7. This list confirms that the Galaxy Z Fold 7 will admit the qi2.1 load, but it is not clear what kind. The WPC did the confusing things when it interrupted Qi2 in the QI2 standard and the new Qi2 Ready certification. The latter means that a device admits the complete QI2 or Qi2.1 technology, but does not include hardware magnets for perfect alignment and accessory support.
The Samsung Galaxy S25 series admitted Qi2.1 ready, and did not include magnets for complete compatibility with the chargers and accessories Qi2 and Magsafe. Samsung and WPC suggest that customers complete the experience by buying a certified case by Qi2.
Due to the thin -shaped factor of the Galaxy Z Fold 7, it is logical that this folding will also admit Qi2 ready, and will not include magnets. For many, this will not be a remarkable update on the Galaxy Z Fold 6. Both the current and next folding will be charged to 15W and will not have magnets.
There is also a clear rarity with this WPC database entry, and that is the power profile listed for this smartphone. It is entered as BPP, or baseline power profile, indicating that the phone only admits the 5W wireless load. Of course, this will not be the case of the Galaxy Z Fold 7, since it would be a clear reduction.
In any case, this is a sign that the WPC database entrance is something like a position marker to the official version of the Galaxy Z Fold 7, and could be subject to changes.
