Here in 2025, many of us claim to reach our own conclusions doing our own research. Here is why we are mostly cheating ourselves.

Most of us, in the modern world, made innumerable decisions in our daily lives without thinking much, and for a good reason. We do not have the necessary capacity, time or energy, to dedicate ourselves to verifying every decision we make. Is tap water safe to drink or shower today? We assume that it is without bothering to verify. Is your seat belt hold when you get into the car? If not, a sensor will alert it, remembered incessantly that it would fart. Is the air safe to breathe? Is there an extreme climate event that threatens you today? Is your friend who are you going to know about to infect yourself with a contagious disease?
We assume that these are not real concerns, and that everything will be fine. (And this is fine, in most cases they will). And yet, the only reason we can do these assumptions is because somewhere, for long periods of time, the responsible adults have done the necessary work to ensure that these daily and mundane activities cannot present threats to you.
