LLM suggest that women are looking for lower salaries than men in work interviews – Computerworld

The difference in recommendations for initial salary applications can be dramatic. In an example, someone who negotiated a base salary as an experienced medical specialist in Denver, ChatgPT-O3 advised CO to ask for $ 400,000 if they were men. For the same position, an equally qualified woman was told to ask for $ 280,000.

Bias tends to worsen

The researchers examined other factors that gender, comparing the recommended salaries for Asian, black, Hispanic and white people, as well as for expatriates, migrants and refugees. They discovered that not only suggested salary applications varied, but more than half of the proven personality combinations showed at least one statistically significant deviation in the models.

That means that the results were probably not accidental.
