Bites from snakes of the genus. bothrops They account for up to 90% of venomous snake bites in Brazil. Among these species, Bothrops taeniatus It is considered uncommon in Brazil, with only one case reported in the literature. Its venom has a strong hemorrhagic effect but lacks procoagulant activity, which can cause significant variations in the neutralizing efficacy of the anti-Bothrops serum. We describe the first case of severe poisoning by B. taeniatus with rapid recovery after the administration of anti-Bothrops serum in Brazil, and discuss the characteristics of B. taeniatus poisoning based on a review of the literature.
