Collapse bottle – air pressure experiment

This Bottle air pressure experiment collapse It is also a Fun Sciences Trick! The bottle collapses without anyone thriving or throwing it.

Adult supervision for this activity is needed, since hot water is used

You will need

Hot Agua: Ask an adult to help

A plastic bottle with lid: the bottles of different sizes are good to compare

Heat oven or glove

Materials needed for a collapse bottle air pressure experiment: hot water teapot, plastic bottle with lid and large bowl

Instructions

Remove the bottle cover. Carefully pour hot water into the bottle until it is close to two thirds full.

Using a heat resistant glove, turn the water carefully around the bottle.

Empty the hot water from the bottle and quickly replace the lid.

Note how the bottle collapses on itself.

Experiment with different sizes and forms of bottles.

Why the collapse of the bottle?

The hot water gives the air inside the bottle energy, which allows the particles to move more, increasing the pressure inside the bottle. As soon as the hot water is removed from the bottle, air particles begin to cool and lose energy. This reduces the pressure inside the bottle unless outside the bottle. The air pressed abroad makes the collapse bottle.
