Now I am officially a cord cutter too

People have been cutting the cable of their cable television provider for years. With the explosion of intelligent televisions and transmission services, it is quite easy to survive with only one Internet service and transmit the content you want on your TV. I was late for the game, but earlier this year, I finally decided that I no longer needed and that almost no longer saw cable television.

There are multiple ways to cut the cord

Some people opt for a digital antenna to attract their local channels. Others renounce to have local channels, and people like me who still want to have local channels but do not need their cable suppliers with a different transmission service that offers local channels.

YouTube TV was the one I chose

I thought Youtube has been in the video transmission business for decades, and if someone could broadcast the right television, they would be. They did not disappoint. I enrolled in the trial, which lasts 21 days. Initially I planned to pass through the entire test before launching my TV xfinity. I ended up canceling Xfinity TV the next day. I didn’t see any reason to have to go through the entire trial period.

Call to cancel your existing service can be a lot of pressure

Have you ever noticed how easy it is to register to obtain an online subscription, but force you to call it? There is a reason for that. They don’t want to see you go. Its representatives are trained to try to overcome their reasons to leave, including the offer of discounts and other advantages to maintain it. That is why most people think twice before canceling because they don’t want to go through the discomfort and sale argument.

I discovered the perfect way to cancel any service, and they cannot argue with my reason!

When I went to cancel Xfinity TV, they wanted to know why, and simply say that I found that a cheaper service would not have been enough. They would have tried to counteract and offer discounts with a signed contract, etc.

Every time I want to cancel a subscription, I tell the representative: “My wife has just got a job in the competitive company (in this case, YouTube), and now we have free television!” It doesn’t matter what, they can’t argue with free, and that ends the sales argument.

Xfinity’s representative not only offered no more resistance, but even gave me a sweet treatment in my Internet service (which I would keep anyway), if you registered for a year of commitment. A winner! I was able to go with the less expensive YouTube TV and get a better price on my existing cable internet.

How much cheaper is YouTube TV?

Before the recent increase in Xfinity prices, their cable television prices were not bad, especially if you do not need all the channels they offer. I could probably have reduced my channels and perhaps even reaching cheaper than YouTube television, but there were other factors and costs in my case.

I love Tivo and was still using Dvrs. Tivo is a third -party DVR company that sells DVR that is generally better than those of the cable company and offers characteristics such as automatic commercial skip (which I will miss). The problem is that even after buying your hardware, you still have to pay monthly or annually for your service if you do not opt for a unique life rate. I tried the life rate once and regretted it because it is linked to the team. If you are updated to a newer tivo, start again with the need to subscribe to your service. So he was not only paying for Xfinity TV, but he was also paying for the tivo service in two of his DVR.

When I take into account the savings of not paying Tivo more, then YouTube TV was actually an even sweeter.

Build your package with what you want

I rarely see sports. I was glad to see that, unlike Xfinity, there was no new “regional sports rate” that cannot be chosen. They offer sports packages such as NFL Sunday Ticket for those who love them, but are optional. All my local channels were included.

Interestingly, they charge $ 4.99/month if you want your 4K package. I guess it’s an advantage and one less. If you don’t have a 4K TV or care, you can save there. However, each TV made in recent years has been 4K or more, so they would expect them to make it part of the regular package. They will also sell you individual transmission services, such as Hulu, Disney+, etc. I did not choose to do this because I already enrolled in all those I wanted, and by keeping them separate, I can drop those I want when I want according to the content.

This is what I used to pay:

My xfinity TV only went up to $ 115 months

But wait, there is more! Let’s not forget those tivo rates. Pay a DVR monthly at $ 14.99/month

And the other DVR that was paying annually at $ 149.99/year:

If he adds all three, he was paying $ 142.99/month for cable television and DVR Tivo service!

This is what I pay now:

Once all the promotional savings end, I will pay $ 72.98/month

This means that I almost reduced my TV bill in half, saving $ 70/month! That is $ 840 a year with which I can do something else and still see the same things I always did, even in more convenient ways!

How do I see TV programs or YouTube recording?

Since YouTube TV is like any other transmission service, they have a dedicated application like Hulu, Netflix, Disney+, etc. I have an Apple TV 4K transmission device on all my televisions. To get the YouTube TV, I just downloaded the YouTube TV application on all my devices. Not only could I install it on my Apple TV, but I could also install it on my iPhone, iPad and natively on my LG TV too. Although I really do not need it on the LG TV since I have an Apple TV 4K connected to him anyway, he just wanted to see what it was for the purpose of this blog post.

YouTube TV has an incorporated unlimited DVR function. Instead of programming individual episodes to record, it only specifies the program you always want to record and makes each episode available to see at any time. This concept has a bit to get used to because you never have to worry about completing your DVR/account. It is really unlimited.

YouTube TV also allows up to 6 accounts per household. In this way, each family member obtains their own channel alignments, virtual observation history and DVR.

Another hidden benefit

No more entry switching. Before, if I wanted to watch live television or recordings in Tivo, I would have to change the entrance of the TV to the HDMI port to which the tivo was connected. This is not a big problem, but with YouTube TV it is just another application on Apple TV, the TV can remain at the Inseprt of Apple TV 100% of the time.

Looking while traveling

Another benefit of YouTube TV is that it is an application and, therefore, is installed in all my devices, including the Apple TV with which I travel. This means that, unlike Xfinity (which has an Xfinity Stream application), I can also watch television when I’m on the way, if I want. The Xfinity Stream application will only work if it is connected to Xfinity Internet and most hotels, etc., do not use Xfinity Internet for your commercial service. This makes the Xfinity Stream application useless.

Any disadvantage?

Actually, no, but if I had to choose one, it would be the user interface to which it would get used to. Fortunately, they allow you to configure your channel guide starting session in your computer account. This is incredible, since I can not only list the channels that I will really see, I can put them in the order I want with my absolute favorites at the top of the list. I know that this is about disadvantages, but I had to explain that before reaching the inconvenience.

When youtube TV starts, the menu is divided into three sections: library, start and live.

The library is where you will always find the programs you record. Pretty by itself, and that only works.

The home is a bit of the place where you will find the channels that you see live actually transmitting your live broadcasts simultaneously so you can select one and start seeing and also suggestions of things that you may want to see. I discovered that he suggested many things that could not matter less. Perhaps this improves over time, since you learn my visualization habits.

Live takes him to the channel guide that customizes online. List the channels that he chose in the order that put them, and shows a list of what is at this time and what comes next. This is quite typical of most guides.

If I could probably reorganize the order of these eyelashes. I would put home or live first, since you are likely, or I go first. The library does not need to be in charge and the center, since I am no longer recording a lot in these days.

This is a very minor complaint. I would like more customization options for the user interface. That is really my only minor complaint.

How is the quality of the transmission?

I opted for the additional 4K transmission service (which seems a bit like a money taking), and with this, the quality has been excellent. I have not had a shock absorber, and the quality of the shows is excellent. I was also happy to see that if the program is transmitted in Dolby Atmos, the space audio also appears.

The final result

Are you looking at your cable bill and ask yourself why it’s so high? It is time to evaluate what you are paying and what you really see. Even if you are not ready to cut the cable, I bet many of you pay for the channels you never look at. See if your existing supplier has a cheaper plan that includes only the channels you want. Look at other suppliers, such as YouTube TV, and see if they work better. You can start a test with YouTube TV and try it. If it works, great, keep it. If not, cancel it before the test is over. Try it on TV.youtube.com.
