Apple could soon make it easier to migrate from iPhone to Android

Apple has been working on a new framework designed to simplify the transfer of third-party app data between iOS and Android devices.

The new framework, called App Migration Kit, will be available to anyone with a device compatible with iOS or iPadOS 16.1 and later.

Like the aforementioned operating systems, this new framework is currently in a beta stage. It has been noted that the framework will not be used to transfer data between iOS and iPadOS; rather, it will be used strictly between Apple devices and non-Apple devices, according to documentation on the new framework.

The documentation also states that developers can define whether their applications will import data, export data, or do both. As 9To5Mac As you point out, this is done by creating an application extension that conforms to the new protocol and at least one of the subprotocols.

That way, when the user decides to configure a new device, all applications that implement the new App Migration Kit will have their data included in the package. According 9a5mac, Once the transfer is complete, the developer can import the data stored in the cloud to the target device.

Along with this new framework, Apple is also working on adding an option in settings (Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone), which will be called Transfer to Android. Once the option is selected, a screen will show what can and cannot be transferred during the migration process.

Since this is being developed as an easier solution to transfer data between the two operating systems, Android is also reportedly developing a “Transfer to iPhone” feature. Now, there is an Apple-developed app, but it appears to be an integrated solution that works alongside Apple’s new framework.
