The idea behind this worksheet is for children to take it outside, listen to the sounds around them, and mark the things they can hear.
There are three sheets to choose from: things I can hear on the beach, in the forest, and a general one.
How do we hear noise?
The simple explanation
Sounds are produced when an object vibrates and sends waves of energy towards our ears. The stronger the vibrations, the louder the noise. When air vibrations reach the ear, they shake small hairs connected to the nerves. These nerves send a message to the brain, telling it that a noise has been heard.
Let’s make it a little more complicated.
Sound waves reach the eardrum and make it vibrate.
The vibrations of the eardrum are transmitted to small bones in the ear called ossiclesthen through the semicircular canals and to cochlea.
The cochlea converts vibrations into electrical signals that are sent to the brain.
The brain interprets signals as sounds.

make a eardrum model stretching plastic wrap over a bowl and placing rice or salt on top. When a noise is made, the salt or rice will jump out.
Discover if you can hear the sound in space.
