In 1907, William Willetta British builder, wrote about the waste of sunlight and campaigned for Britain to change its clocks, but sadly died of flu before daylight saving time was established.

In 1961, the German military set its clocks forward to conserve energy, and many European governments followed suit.

In the UK, clocks go back one hour at 2am on October 27. The time always goes back one hour on the last Sunday in October and then goes forward one hour on the last Sunday in March.
