Musk Starlink will benefit from changes to a broadband equity program

Another day, another Trump administration movement that will benefit Elon Musk, shocking. He United States Department of Commerce He has announced a review of the Equity, Access and Deployment Program (Bead) of 2021 and its $ 42.5 billion that will channel the work to Musk Starlink.

The Bead program was originally designed to provide funds to the states for the installation of fiber optic cable, increase Wi-Fi networks and free broadband Internet access for some people. Fiber optic broadband provides the fastest Internet speeds, but the new mandate will eliminate Bead’s preference for it.

“The department is starting the useless requirements of the Biden Administration,” said United States Secretary Howard Lutnick in a statement. “It is renewing the account program to adopt a neutral technology approach that is rigorously driven by the results, so states can provide internet access for the lowest cost.”

The writing on the wall is clear: musk, the richest person in the world, leader of an apartment to reduce the waste of the government (read: cut many critical jobs and programs) and a right hand not chosen to what can be described better as an authoritarian government, is about to earn even more money.

According to the Biden administration in 2023, Starlink received a rejection of the Federal Communications Commission for almost $ 900 million in subsidies. The FCC declared that the Starlink application, which was part of the Digital Opportunity Fund program, did not meet the program requirements.
