Indian wedding season to generate record business worth Rs 4.25 trillion in revenue: CIAT

It is the season of festivals and shaadis. The wedding business in 2023 is estimated to generate a whopping Rs 4.25 lakh crore in revenue with over 35 lakh weddings. This is the highest level ever recorded in recent history, according to the survey conducted by the Confederation of All India Traders (CIAT). The first phase of the wedding season will begin on November 23 and run until December 15. Merchants are preparing for the first stage of these weddings.

According to BC Bharatiya, national president of CIAT, around 3.5 lakh weddings are expected in Delhi alone, which is likely to generate a revenue of Rs 1 lakh crore. According to Praveen Khandelwal, CIAT general secretary, in the 23 days of the wedding season, the cost of weddings ranges from Rs 3 lakhs per wedding in about 6 lakh marriages, while in about 10 lakh shaadis, the cost per wedding would be more than Rs 6 lakhs. Approximately 6 lakh weddings will have a budget of Rs 25 lakh each. About 50,000 weddings are expected to have a staggering budget of over Rs 1 million.

The next phase of the wedding season will begin in January 2024 and run until July. According to the CIAT survey, last year’s wedding season generated a business of Rs 3.75 lakh crore with around 3.2 lakh weddings.
