In his recent interview with CNBC TV-18, Shaadi Dot Com founder and boss Anupam Mittal shared the secret to building an Indian business with a market capitalization of billions of dollars. Mittal has been a recurring shark on India’s most popular business reality show, Shark Tank India, where his PhD involves more than just coming to terms with proposals close to his heart. The shark loves to share his gyaan and often catches off guard pitchers who are roasted with a dose of business wisdom. While not all of his investments have been a success, most have generated decent business. Hence the frequently asked questions: What does it take to run a successful business? Mittal shares the “winning formula” of bridging the gap between high aspirations and low affordability, where India is a low affordability market. He cites H&M as an example that made “inspirational” quite “affordable” for Indians. Additionally, he suggested Zudio as an even better example. The businessman stressed that the gap can be closed in any category and that it does not necessarily have to be cheap. Reacting to a comment, he clarified that there is a difference between “affordable” and “cheap.”
