The idea behind this booklet is that you print the packet, complete the activities and then recycle everything, so there is almost no waste!

Flying Santa STEM Challenge
Use my handy template to set up a Santa STEM Flying Challenge. They work the same way as a straw rocket, but with a flying Santa Claus instead of a rocket!

My Christmas Lava Lamps It will always be one of my favorite holiday science experiments. They can be used over and over again and make a beautiful and unusual Christmas decoration.

Christmas shadow puppets They are very easy to make and very fun even for very young children. Snowmen of different sizes or a giant tree with decorations would be good for this one.

Frosty the snowman
Do Frost appears on the outside of a can. using the freezing power of ice and salt. This activity is fun for younger children as it is visually appealing and a good investigation for older children to discover what happens to ice when it is mixed with salt.
Festive optical illusion
Optical illusions are fun any time of year, but this holiday version is my favorite. Use it to put decorations on a treea snowman’s face or anything else you can think of. The FREE download includes a template to make the activity even easier.

Our festive LEGO The maze will keep kids busy for hours. For more fun, Create a challenge to see who can build the best one or try making a multi-story version.

Gingerbread House STEM Challenge
Discover the The best material for making a gingerbread house.. Will it be powdered sugar, glucose syrup or something else?
If you don’t have time to make the gingerbread pieces, a square cookie works well too.
Fun Holiday Food Combinations
Love turkey cranberry sauce? Or cheese and pickles? Find out why some foods pair better with this than others fun food combining activity. Would you eat cranberry sauce and chocolate yule logs at the same time?
Super strong candy canes
Hang Christmas decorations on candy canes. to know how strong they are. Just don’t use decorations that could break if dropped.
dissolve candy canes in different liquids. Vinegar and hot and cold water are good liquids to try first. For an edible experiment, place a candy cane in a warm, hot chocolate drink.
Filtered apple cider.
Do lovely apple cider to learn about filtering. This is a really fun Christmas cooking activity, and the apple cider tastes and smells amazing!
melting marshmallows
Discover How long does it take for a marshmallow to melt? in your hot chocolate. One idea for this activity is to find out if many small marshmallows melt faster than one or two large ones.

Build and test a raft for the reindeer!
Create a pulley in a box to help an elf lift his toys. This is a brilliant engineering challenge and can be done on a small or large scale, depending on the age and abilities of the children.

Design and build Christmas-themed boats and try them to see if they sink or float and if they can carry Christmas objects.
