During the last week, I had the task of testing the new Sony Wh-1000xm6 headphones to its absolute limit. And yes, they are quite great. With the class noise cancellation capabilities in class, impressive audio and functions for days, they compete even against some of the best headphones. But should you buy them now?
For many, the answer will be a resounding yes, but I would not be alone in having some reservations or questions. So, if you are in the fence, these are my three main reasons to collect the Sony Wh-000xm6 at this time … as well as three reasons to keep fire.

Why should you buy them
1. obtains active noise cancellation capabilities in class

The new cans of the Japanese technological giant use the Fresh HD noise cancellation processor, which is seven times faster than the old QN1. I found that they were equally good, if not better, than the Bose in my real world tests, which included my apartment aspirator, walk in heavy traffic areas and take public transport. 2. They sound fantastic and can mold to their specific liking

There are also extremes to improve the smaller audio files, and Sony’s patented LDAC codec to obtain the best of ‘hi-res on Bluetooth. And if you really want to make the XM6 it sounds yours, you can have a reproduction with the EQ configuration, which includes an Equalizer Find your equalization test that creates a custom made sound, only for you.
3. Get access to a treasure of intelligent features
But wait … the intelligent characteristics of the application do not stop there. Sony has added even more Characteristics of its Sound Connect application for Wh-000xm6 owners. There are aircase, a type of Bluetooth technology that allows you to tune in an audio transmission transmitted from a telephone, TV or similar device without pairing. But there is also a function of instant silence in the microphone that is useful for calls and listening based on the scene, which can adjust ANC levels depending on their environment.
And in addition to these new incorporations, it is obtaining the best of everything that has come before in the Wh-1000X line. I am talking about multiple connectivity, wear detection, compatibility of the voice assistant and adaptive sound control, which adjusts the audio output according to its location and movement.
There is also an environmental sound mode and speak with chat for when you want to be more aware of your surroundings. Alternatively, just cover your hand on the right headset and you can listen to everything that surrounds you super clearly until you lift your hand.
And I could continue … there is a film listening mode that mixes the stereo sound in a more immersive and background three -dimensional format, which makes it look like your melodies are reproducing in a cafeteria or living room.
Why could they not be suitable for you at this time
1. They are not cheap … for saying at least
Okay, I could have made the Sony Wh-000xm6 sound like the perfect headphone torque so far. But still, they could not be suitable for everyone, at least at this time. And perhaps the most obvious reason of that is that they are quite expensive.
In fact, they will cost even more than their predecessor, the Sony Wh-000xm5, did it at the launch. The new XM6 of the brand has a list price of $ 449 / £ 400 / au $ 699, which is $ 50 / £ 20 / au $ 50 more than the last flagship model in the launch.
The XM5 is now widely available for closer to $ 300 / £ 250 and rivals as the aforementioned Bose Quietcomfort Ultra are also for sale for less than $ 350 / £ 350 quite regularly.
I must also take into account here that they cost the same as the Bowers & Wilkins PX7 S3, and those have a clearly superior sound quality, although the Sony defeated them in the power and characteristics of ANC.
So, despite the fact that the XM6 offers a better sound quality than its predecessor and ANC that faces the recent supremacy of Bose, it could take a discount for some to take the step in a purchase.
2. Do not supply the best battery life
The Sony Wh-000xm6 leaves 30 hours of game time with an Award on. Is that bad? You are welcome. But is it particularly impressive? NO again, not really. To be honest, 30 hours is quite average for a more expensive torque of headphones like these.
For example, it is the same amount that you will get from the Bowers & Wilkins Px7 S3 of five stars, as well as the Sonos Ace headphones.
On the other hand, there are some competitors who totally blow those 30 hours of game time out of the water. The fantastic Audio P100 of Cambridge Audio P100 has a 60 -hour battery life with ANC and, as the name implies, an amazing 100 hours with noise cancellation. Another pair that manages 60 hours is Sennheiser Momentum 4 Wireless, which are excellent all-terrain with a significantly lower price than WH-000xm6.
3. You may not be dropped by your appearance
So the latter is much more subjective, but the design of the Sony Wh-000xm6 might not be for you. Look, I like the appearance of these new cans in general, but I can’t help feeling that headphones are quite thick. So, if you are looking for a more curved or discreet look, these may not be the best absolute headphones for you.
In addition, Sony has only chosen to launch the XM6 in three colors: black; Midnight blue; and platinum silver. There is no variant of Pink Smoky at the launch point, which was a popular addition to the XM5 alignment after entering the fray in September 2024. Fans of a more vibrant look can also be better attended by the Bose Quietcomfort headphones (hold the ultra: these are the cheapest model), which can grab in green, blue and lilac.
If you were collecting some headphones in the looks alone, you would have to go with the Marshall Monitor III ANC. They have a false leather housing in the headphones, discrete buttons and a luxury -looking transport box. When it comes to style alone, they are among the best.
