The ice melts, the earth changes
Unraveling in silence
The frost fabric.
Roads once firm,
now hesitate;
Cloud of ice mirrors
As the silent flagens stir
And wait.
Through cracks
on Stone’s skin,
Ice exhales your
contaminated breathing;
Sted Communities
The whispers of change –
A silent swirl
Under Cracked
and steps inclined.

This poem is inspired by Recent researchwhich has investigated the key risks of the thaw of the Arctic permafrost.
In the Arctic, the defrosting of Permafrost has challenges that affect both the environment and local communities. This phenomenon leads to serious consequences, such as infrastructure damage and altered natural habitats, which interrupt local economies and traditions. Understanding these effects is crucial to develop effective policies and adaptive strategies.
Scientists have now explored the implications of the thaw of Permafrost in the regions of Norway, Greenland, Canada and Russia. Based on the ideas of local interested parties and scientists, this research described how Permafrost Thaw introduces significant risks through their dynamic interactions between natural processes and social impacts. The research highlighted five primary hazards: the collapse of critical infrastructure, the interruption of essential mobility and supply chains, the decrease in water quality, threats to food security and greater exposure to diseases and pollutants. This research provides vital ideas for future decisions and responses to the challenges posed by permafrost’s thaw in these vulnerable Arctic areas.
