Wyze, the Seattle -based technology company that specializes in intelligent home products and wireless cameras, has to hope to rebuild some lost confidence. The company has been full of numerous security failures in recent years, when an AWS interruption led thousands of users to get access to recorded videos of other people’s houses. That incident, matched with the history of the security failure company, even LED The New York Times to Wyze products more than a year ago.
Now, in a Announcement that the interruption of AWS mentally mentions, Wyze is security that the company calls Wyze VerifiedView. The additional safety layer works by integrating a single user ID in the firmware of a Wyze camera when configuring. The camera in turn marks that identification in each photo, video and live broadcast. Before any device can access that footage, the Wyze software will verify that the integrated identification coincides with that of the user before it allows the footage or images to be seen.
Wyze is inflexible that this new layer is simply based on its already robust safety structure, which is similar to “spike wire fences, explosive traps, safety guards, acidic sharks, laser scanners and guard dogs robot of AI”. While it is not mentioned in the press release, the announcement video clarified that VerifiedView can never reach older models such as the Wyze Cam Pan V1 and V2 due to hardware limitations.
Wyze says that he has been promoting this update to his most popular models since the beginning of April, and that the users of these models only need to update their firmware and application to receive the update. The models are not clear, since Wyze also mentioned that other models will receive updates in the coming weeks and months, but again did not specify what models they referred to.
