Simple plants perspiration experiment

Perspiration It is the evaporation of water from the leaves, stems or flowers of a plant.

You may have seen my Perspiration experiments Using celery and color water, and white flowers before. Today I have a slightly different way of demonstrating this important Sscientific concept. It is an excellent way to show perspiration in action, and all you need is an interior or exterior plant and a re -exalrable plastic bag.

PLASTIC BAGS PUISHING DEMICATION

You will need

Small Resellible Plastic Bag

Interior or exterior plant

Great sunflower with a small plastic bag covered one of the large leaves.

Instructions

Perspiration is faster on a hot day, so this activity is a great summer science activity.

Carefully cover a group of small leaves or a large sheet with the plastic bag.

Check the bag every two hours.

You will see the accumulated condensation first, and then the water will accumulate in the lower part of the bag.

water collected inside a small plastic bag that covers a sheet

The water that has been collected in the bag is water from the perspiration that has risen the stem of the roots and also the water produced during breathing.

What is perspiration?

This PLASTIC BAGS PUISHING DEMICATION It shows that the water was released from the sheet while it was covered.

The perspiration is the movement of water in the stem of a plant from the root to the leaf when the water is lost from the plant due to the evaporation and diffusion of water from the surface of a plant.

Water is absorbed by the root of the plant and moves through the root cell cells through the process of osmosis. Then it moves to the xylem container, which is the tube that transports the water through the stem. The water moves through the xylem container by adhesion (being attracted to the side of the vessel) and cohesion (water molecules that attract each other).

When the water evaporates from the surface of the leaves, the change of pressure pulls the water column up to replace the lost water. This creates a constant perspiration current of water through the plant.
